Veneer Crown Placement & Crowns

Veneer Crown Placement

Dentistry on Finch understands a patient’s desire to have a natural looking smile. We offer natural-looking porcelain veneers and metal-free crowns and bridges. A veneer improves the overall appearance of a tooth by covering the front surface with a custom-made porcelain overlay that is fabricated in a laboratory.
A veneer is often prescribed for a single tooth or multiple teeth that are:

  • discolored or stained
  • chipped, broken or worn down
  • misaligned, or irregular in shape
  • close gaps between teeth

Crowns

A crown is a restoration that covers a tooth to restore it to its normal or ideal shape and size while improving the overall strength and appearance of a tooth. A crown is often necessary when a tooth is broken and a regular filling won’t support the damage. A crown is often used as well to support large fillings when a large portion of tooth structure is missing to help prevent the tooth from fracture.
A crown will look and function like a natural tooth. The dentist will prepare the tooth for a crown by reducing it so the crown can fit over it. An impression will be sent to a laboratory so they can fabricate the crown. A temporary crown will be made until the permanent crown is ready. On the subsequent visit, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and permanently cement the crown onto the tooth.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a non-removable appliance that can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges can improve your risk of bum dis, including reducing your risk of gum disease, help to correct minor bite issues, and can even improve your speech. The false tooth acts as holder to prevent the shifting of teeth, improve one’s oral health, as well as improve one’s smile.

A bridge is typically made from either porcelain fused to metal or all porcelain. The traditional bridge consists of two crowns (abutments) that are attached to an artificial tooth (pontic) and cemented on. A bridge is a highly durable replacement for missing teeth/ a tooth lasting for many years. They may need to be replaced over time or recemented due to wear.

There are several reasons for a fixed bridge: -prevent teeth from drifting -restore chewing -improve speech -restore one’s smile -fill spaces for missing teeth

The preparation for a fixed bridge usually requires two or more visits. The first appointment the two abutment teeth are prepared by reducing the enamel so the crowns can fit properly. Then the dentist will create an accurate impression (mold) of the patients mouth which will be sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge will be fabricated.  The patient will receive a temporary bridge during this appointment which will be made and worn until final delivery. Once the bridge is fabricated by the laboratory, the permanent fixed bridge will be cemented in the mouth.

You will receive care instructions for home care of your fixed bridge after your treatment.  Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new permanent bridge.

If you're missing a tooth and want to discuss options to replace it such as a bridge, ask us at Dentistry on Finch if a dental bridge is right for you.
