Crowns
A crown is a restoration that covers a tooth to restore it to its normal or ideal shape and size while improving the overall strength and appearance of a tooth. A crown is often necessary when a tooth is broken and a regular filling won’t support the damage. A crown is often used as well to support large fillings when a large portion of tooth structure is missing to help prevent the tooth from fracture.
A crown will look and function like a natural tooth. The dentist will prepare the tooth for a crown by reducing it so the crown can fit over it. An impression will be sent to a laboratory so they can fabricate the crown. A temporary crown will be made until the permanent crown is ready. On the subsequent visit, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and permanently cement the crown onto the tooth.
